Young Lionesses to face Spain in U17 World Cup semi finals
England’s young lionesses will face Spain on Thursday (22:45 GMT) for a place in the U17 World Cup final.
The last time the young lionesses faced Spain was the Euros U17 final back in May where they were beaten 4-0 – a dire result they’ll be fighting to avoid.
A penalty shootout win over Japan has secured England’s place in the last four, marking the first time since 2016 the young lionesses have competed in an U17s World Cup finals.
The tournament is taking place in the Dominican Republic. You can watch it live on the BBC.
Gaffer says there is real pride
Despite the great run, gaffer Natalie Henderson has said her team are “not satisfied yet” and want to go one step further against Spain.
She told BBC Sport:
“There is real pride and emotion at the moment. It is a great achievement for the staff and the players to reach a World Cup semi-final
“When we qualified for the tournament, we wanted to compete to go as far as we could. I feel very proud of the journey we’ve been on so far.”
The semi-final will be shown live on BBC iPlayer and on the BBC Sport website and app from 22:45 GMT on Thursday.
