Arsenal fans push Jonas out ... what comes next?

Arsenal fans push Jonas out … what comes next?

October 15, 2024October 15, 2024

Arsenal fans will be rejoicing at the news Jonas Eidevall has stepped down as manager – with immediate effect. The Swedish boss had led the Gunners since 2021 and despite picking up some silverware along the way, he was unable to achieve the title.

Eidevall had signed a new three-year contract with the club last October. But the start to this season has been particularly tough for the north London club – who are sixth in the table, winning just one of their opening four games of the 2024-25 season. They suffered a humiliating thumping in Europe last week before losing the London derby at home – in front of some familiar faces.

You may have a feeling that Eidevall jumped before he was pushed after pressure start rapidly building.

You may also feel the fans shoved him out the door.

The loss to Chelsea saw the Gunners greeted with boos and not long after the game ended graffiti appeared on Hornsey Road by the Emirates reading “Jonas Out”, a clear sign that Arsenal’s massive, growing, engaged and passionate fanbase had turned on the coach.

Assistant coach Renee Slegers will take charge on an interim basis.

What has the club said?

“We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021,” sporting director Edu said.

“We have great respect for the dedication and commitment he showed to our women’s first team and recognise the role he has played in the growth and development of Arsenal Women.”

“Our focus will now turn to the process of appointing a new head coach, and in the meantime, supporting Renee [Slegers], as she takes interim charge of the team starting with two important fixtures this week,” Edu added.

Who will replace him?

Casey Stoney – who was pictured at the Emirates during the London derby – is a name being thrown around. The English manager – and former Arsenal defender – moved to the US in 2021, just months after leading Man United to fourth place in the WSL. She was sacked by the American club back in June …

Ok so someone call casey stoney or Ian Wright, and while we’re there, get Miedema back
