Chloe Kelly back in Lionesses squad after Beth Mead drops out with injury

Newly re-crowned Arsenal player Chloe Kelly is back in the Lionesses squad for the upcoming Women’s Nations League matches this month.

It’s an exciting time for Kelly, who on Sunday made her Emirates debut, being welcomed by more than 56,000 rambunctious fans.

Kelly had initially been dropped from the squad after struggling to get game time at Manchester City. Her time at the club came to a disappointing end, with Kelly accusing the club of briefing journalists against her.

She’s only had one Women’s Super League start this season, but her debut yesterday was positive and she made an impact.

Mead was on the bench for the Arsenal match and has now withdrawn with an injury, as has Lotte Wubben-Moy, who also missed out on Sunday’s north London derby.

Arsenal boss Renee Slegers said Wubben-Moy had picked up “a minor muscle injury” and was scheduled for a scan on Monday.

Aston Villa defender Lucy Parker, 26, has been called up to replace Wubben-Moy as part of Wiegman’s 24-player squad.

The Lionesses joined up at St George’s Park on Monday morning and will travel to Portugal for Friday’s game (19:45 GMT).

They face world champions Spain at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, 26 February at 20:00 GMT.
