- What is the England team news? Lauren James to start on the bench, everyone else available for full 90
The Lionesses are in action tonight in Leicester, where they’ll face Jamaica in a final friendly before jetting off to Switzerland for the 2025 Women’s European Championship.
It’s been a bit of a wild ride for the Lionesses in recent times, after making it to the final of the Women’s World Cup in 2023, the team have struggled a bit with form. A few huge, bold, exciting wins followed by some bizarre and unexpected losses. It’s been a bit of an odd time since the World Cup with the Lionesses struggling to find consistency, hit by injury and a few shock retirements/withdrawals ahead of the tournament.
England are in a tough group this Euros (France, the Netherlands and Wales) with only two teams making it to the knockout stages, England cannot afford any slip-ups. Tonight’s game is one final chance for the players to make their pitch to boss Sarina Wiegman for why she should choose them, and the fans’ last chance to see what England have been working on and what our tournament is set to look like.

When is England vs Jamaica?

What is the England team news?
Lauren James returns from injury, but after months of being sidelined, she’s likely to start on the bench as she rebuilds her fitness. Boss Wiegman has said everyone else is fit and able to play a full 90, including Georgia Stanway, who’s back from a knee injury. Lauren Hemp has also returned from injury and will likely be key to any England success. It’s the squad’s last chance of impressing Wiegman who could offer a first cap to either goalkeepers Khiara Keating and Anna Moorhouse, who will be deputy to Hannah Hampton at the Euros.

What Sarina Wiegman said pre-match
On England’s preparations: “The squad is in good shape. We’ve had two weeks to train, that was really nice. Tomorrow is our last moment in England to show that we’re ready and how ready we are. We’re really excited to play the last game before we go into the tournament. You just want to get good connections out of the team and show the level we have at the moment.”
On facing Jamaica: “I think they’re very physical, they miss a couple of players, unfortunately, because you really like to play against the best opponent, but I think they’ll challenge us physically. They have a pretty direct style of play, so we expect to have the ball and that’s where we put a bit more emphasis on.”
