Chelsea maintain perfect start to WSL season
Chelsea once again snagged all three points in a hard-fought win over Liverpool. The Blues are now within a point of Manchester City and still with a game in hand. They have now won their opening four away games in the WSL and have yet to drop points, maintaining their perfect start to the new season. Chelsea’s Mayra Ramirez opened the scoring in the 37th minute, being the first to react to Kaneryd’s effort that hit the crossbar. Guro Reiten took advantage of an error from goalkeeper Laws, curling the ball around the keeper (who was off her line) to double the scoreline before the break. In the 90th minute, Aggie Beever-Jones added a third.
Despite the scoreline, Liverpool did have a handful of chances and a few superb individual performances. They started well causing Chelsea problems with their high press, getting players behind the west London club’s backline. But their lack of ruthlessness in front of goal took the game away from them in the second half.
